ACTQ: JAZZ…DO YOU HAVE IT?

“So raise up squire, address your attire. We have no time to wallow in the mire. If you’re on a foreign path, then let me do the lead. Join in the essence of the cool-out breed… I don’t really mind if it’s over your head. Cuz the job of resurrectors is to wake up the dead. So pay attention, it’s not hard to decipher. And after the horns, you can check out the Phifer.” A Tribe Called Quest, “Jazz (We Got It)”, The Low End Theory. 1991.

THE DDR: Happy Friday brothers and sisters of the Daily Dose.  It’s been one heck of a last five days. And I am looking forward to whoosaah’ing tonight at the premier of Michael Rapaport’s Beats, Rhymes, and Life, the documentary film about the life and times of A Tribe Called Quest.  So I’ma make it quick today, and leave you with this DDR: The person you step on when you think you got a step up, will be the same person that you pass on your way down as they go up.  Be careful how you treat people and how you talk to people. Continue to see the I in We. Remember to hop up out the bed and turn your swag on so not to ever downplay God’s blessings.  He’s called us all to pray ready for change, and to serve others or die a slow spiritual death.  In a nutshell, this is the consciousness of hip-hop.  This is what it means to “have the jazz.” So ask yourself “Do I have the jazz?”  I know I do. As a matter of fact, I don’t wanna have anything else.

“We got the jazz, we got the jazz…”

Really appreciate your daily doses of realness. Tribe Call Quest brings back fond memories of UGA, and the first and only time I’ve seen them in concert. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Thanks Dr. Joyce.
