“It’s a celebration of Black Excellence. Black tie, black Maybachs. Black excellence, opulence, decadence. Tuxes next to the president. I’m present… Success never smelled so sweet. I stink of success. The new black elite. They say my black card bear the mark of the beast. I repeat. My religion is the beat. My verse is like church. My Jesus piece.” Jay-Z & Kanye West, “Murder to Excellence,” Watch the Throne, 2011
TRUTH. What a pleasant morning it is Daily Dosers. I hope this message finds you feeling good this morning. Healthy, energized, and focused. I’m feeling myself this morning for two reasons. One, it is the day that the Universe has made and I am celebrating it with the spirit of thankfulness because, two, today is my birthday!! God has been so good to my family, friends, and me. His coat of protection continues to layer me with the with courage to keep moving towards the throne and relishing in how I see His blessings shower those around me.
Although I am an election baby, today I decided not to get political and talk about the fact that we are exactly one year away from the next Presidential election. I decided to shy away from a DDR that reminds us that the economy is still under siege, and that Occupy Wall Street as well as Oak-town’s Shut Down the Ports movement that took place last week are our current realities. Lastnight I watched the premiere of the Real Housewives of Atlanta and BET’s Black Girls Rock! An oxymoronic act to flip between a show that presents Black women bickering with one another and Black women celebrating one another huh? Yea I know. But I won’t go there this morning either.
The DDR: Today we celebrate Black Excellence. It is November 7, 2011, the day God brought me into the world. I publicly give thanks to Him, as well as the Daily Dosers who reciprocate the love by reading some of the most vulnerable thoughts of me and my team each and everyday. Thank you to those who click the links, and find the words encouraging, up-lifting, and thought-provoking. It is because of you all that we continue to grow the 30 Days of series. Today, remember to celebrate your Black Excellence as well. It’s never too late to start watching your throne. God bless you. Enjoy your Monday.
