DIGGING NEW GROUND OR DIGGING NEW GRAVES

DIGGING NEW GROUND OR DIGGING NEW GRAVES

“In tonight’s news: 20th Century Technology. Has the computer age, scientists, and doctors gone too far? Einstein or Frankenstein? Dr. Scholl’s, or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Are we digging into new ground, or digging our own graves?  Story at 11.”

OUTKAST, “Synthesizer,” Aquemini, 1998

ORDER.

Happy Hump Wednesday Daily Dosers. I hope today’s DDR finds your week turning out well because it’s really been one heck of a last two days.  In fact, the lyrical excerpt above was selected by my mind squad BECAUSE Wednesday’s theme focuses on ORDER, and this part of OUTKAST’s “Synthesizer”, the 6th song on Aquemini questions whether or not the way in which we do things are advancing us as a people or jus digging us a much deeper whole from which we may never come back from.  For example, what are your thoughts on the hole Arnold Schwarzenegger has dug for himself? A love child with the nanny? A love child with the nanny who was pregnant when his soon-to-be ex-wife was also pregnant?  Damn, the Governator clearly ignorant to the lesson to NEVER POOP WHERE YOU EAT.  And what about the hole Fox News – Bill O’Reilly specifically – dug for himself when they waged this war against Common for coming to the White House and the Obama’s for inviting him.  Jon Stewart, the host of “The Daily Show” straight clowned O’Reilly when he pointed out how Bono, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen all wrote songs that questioned the unjustifiable sentencing of presumed “cop killers” AND how all three of them have come to the White House at some point in time or another.  Bill O’Reilly turned RED as Jon Stewart called Fox a “selective outrage machine”. Check it out below.

And speaking of digging and drilling, Obama has now given the greenlight to extend offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico to get these high ass gas prices down. (Side thought: Damn these gas prices are drivin’ me nuts). And at about 6:15 EST this morning, the Endeavour docked at the International Space Station for what is said to be its last mission. According to reports, the shuttle will be on a 16-day mission returning May 29th. (What are they doing up there?) Anyway…

The DDR: To say the least, it’s a lot of “synthesizing” going on?  Space trips, offshore drilling extensions, a lack of facts in attacking the President and Common, and Schwarzenegger has clearly synthesized his personal life to the point that he will more than likely lose his wife and family in its current form.  This verse makes me think about my own life? It makes me question even more what’s going on around me in my community, but it also makes me pause to make sure my personal life is in order so that I’m digging new and productive ground rather than digging a grave for myself. What about you?
