KNOW YOUR PLACE

“But God, I’mma teach ’em, reach ’em up in these streets”, David Banner, “Bush”, Mississippi: The Album, 2003.

ORDER. Happy Wednesday Daily Dosers. With all of the commotion behind Hurricane Irene, and rightfully so, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial dedication ceremony was postponed. So many of us have waited for the dedication while donating money, time, and much patience to this project. Now the memorial is up and available for the public to see! Dr. King is being honored for his public service, sacrifice, and dedication to people anywhere and social problems everywhere. But the memorial does not only represent him but also the people who supported him and the movement. And, SUPPORT is necessary in a movement as significant and life-changing as the Civil Rights Movement.

Everyone will not be a Dr. King or even want to sacrifice their lives for humankind the way that he did. However, there will be countless people who we will count on for support in current and future movements. That is, people in the background whose names we will never know. Within this group of people may be YOU. You may be called on to lend your services to a group, organization, agency, or ministry. Your sacrificial service is needed to help many people. Ambassador Andrew Young told T.I. in Walking With Guns that Dr. King did not want to lead the Civil Rights Movement, but he recognized his abilities and stepped up to the plate because his community needed him to. He knew his place as the front runner.

The DDR: I read a quote recently that said To know your place is a good idea in politics. That is not to say stay in your place or hang on to your place, because ambition or boredom may dictate upward or downward mobility, but a sense of place — a feel for one’s own position in the control room — is useful in gauging what you should try to do.Know your place in this game called Life. Are you meant to contribute to the support team or are you a front runner? There is an order to things; an order in which we do not always understand. In this movement of changing the world, you have to be clear about your position. Where you stand affects everyone. People are counting on you to stay true to your position. Know your place and act on it. We are counting on you. Peace.
