NEVERMIND THE DETAILS

NEVERMIND THE DETAILS

“And I thank you for choosing me to come through unto life. To be a beautiful reflection of His grace.” Lauryn Hill, “To Zion”, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, 1998.

RIGHTEOUSNESS. I had a hard time falling asleep Wednesday night. My body was exhausted, but my mind was restless. So restless that I was up until 4am. In the dark of the morning a combination of thoughts raced through my mind. Most were who-what-when-where-how details, and as soon as one left [my thoughts] another one entered. I tossed and turned, and grew increasingly frustrated. Ya see in exactly 11 weeks I will embark upon an experience that will “give birth” to the greatest professional journey I’ve had thus far. Mid-August I will relocate to Boston – the Cambridge area – for a semester-long fellowship at the HipHop Archives at Harvard University’s WEB Du Bois Institute. Some of you might recall me mentioning this in “Elevators: Me and You” during last month’s 30 Days of OUTKAST. I was very excited then, and I’m very excited now. The difference? Well, the reality is beginning to set in NOW. The pressures are mounting as the details start to unfold. Plus I’m having what I call “detachment issues” when it comes to my mom and sister, both of whom I’m extremely close to. This is why I had insomnia Wednesday night. I was mulling over the specifics.

Thank God for friends who can be called on at 3AM. My longtime compadre – hearing my angst – sat up on the phone with me until 4am. He listened to me exhale, and assured encouraged me to chill out because everything will surely work out for the best. Afterwards, I felt so much better then dozed on off to sleep. (Thanks Voo.)

The DDR: God gives us marching orders. Our only duty is to see that these orders are filled. The “how”, that is the details and how they fall, are out of our control because that part is God’s commitment to us. He keeps his end of the bargain to work it out. That’s the reciprocity of the relationship between God and his people. So we must trust, have faith, stay focused, and remain humble in execution. This morning I challenge you to NEVERMIND THE DETAILS and to TRUST GOD FULLY. To do anything else will most definitely bring on some sleepless nights. Take it from me, the midnight marauder. Have a great weekend Daily Dosers! (Thanks Seneca.“Marching marching marching marching…Zion marching marching marching.”)
