“{Lauryn singing} See my rhymes, are the type of fly rhymes that can only get down with my crew. And if you try, to take lines or bite rhymes (hehe)
we’ll show you how the ReFugees do. {Lauryn rapping} Yeah, yeah behold, as my odes, manifold on your rhymes. Two MC’s can’t occupy the same space at the same time. It’s against the laws of physics.” Lauryn Hill as part of The Fugees, “Zealots”, The Score, 1996.
RIGHTEOUSNESS. Happy Friday Daily Dosers!! Wow, it was a short week it seems. Funny how taking away one day (Monday) can make the week feel like it was over as soon as it got started. The good thing is that it was a quality week, and I hope for you it was just as productive.
We got lots of comments regarding this week’s lessons. Remember, we ended with 30 Days of OUTKAST on Tuesday. The DDR was titled “Press Reset”, and the lesson focused on not being afraid to start over when things get a bit chaotic in life. This is how we push towards balance and harmony. Then we started 30 Days of Lauryn Hill on Wednesday. The title and lesson was “Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History”. Yesterday, L-Boogie Lesson #2 was “Pick Up Your Microphones”, and it generated lots of comments from DDR readers about how they pick up their microphones daily in order to educate, inspire, and encourage. So to round out the week, I’d like for us to end with L-Boogie Lesson #3, which is Two MCs Can’t Occupy the Same Space at the Same Time. In other words, to have an effective and influential VOICE we must STAY IN OUR LANE. As a matter of fact, I think knowledge of self is the first law of leadership as it is one of the highest ideals of hip-hop, right? To say it another way, DO YOU and be happy doing yours. To do the opposite is to wander around in someone else’s oasis of a world trying to “take lines” and “bite rhymes” from others, and according to Ms. Hill that’s “against the laws of physics.”
The DDR: So to bring it all together to end the week on the shoulders of RIGHTEOUSNESS. First, we mustn’t be afraid to PRESS RESET in life. The choice is to regroup, re-assess, and reset OR to keep doing the same thing over expecting different results. The latter is the definition of insanity. And believe me, I always find myself getting the same results when I refuse to reset. What about you? Second, pressing reset will require a resetting of the voice. So never minimize your VOICE in such a way that discourages self or others. Rather, find your voice, PICK-UP YOUR MICROPHONE, and use it for good because (a) having something to say that encourages life and love is one of God’s greatest gifts, and (b) WELL-BEHAVED WOMEN (AND MEN) RARELY MAKE HISTORY. Have a blessed weekend.
